Today started day 7 of chemo which means the first round of chemo ends tomorrow night. We will be doing a bone marrow test in about a week to see how the cancer is reacting to the chemo. After this round of chemo there is a 2-3 week recovery period. Although this round of chemo is over, I am still unknown as to how my body is going to react to it all. Thanks to all for the tips on chemo and getting the popsicles. I had heard that and did take that advice. Keep it coming!

We finally got the results back from the Cytogenetics test which came back as intermediate risk meaning I am a good candidate for the bone marrow transplant. This is the news we have been waiting for so it was nice to get it. Now we need to wait for the insurance company to approve the testing for Steve and hope he is a match (which will take time).

Today I wasn't feeling as tired as yesterday which is good. I did have nauseau in the morning but outside of that I still feel as strong as I did before this all began. Thanks for reading and I look forward to another day of becoming closer to recovery...

I check in with your blog every day. It's such a great tool to keep us all connected. I actually have the blog up on my computer, as an open tab; and I think of you several times during the work day.

Jill and I are sending our best to you and your family.

Jim and Mary were both patients in a Mental Hospital. One day while they were walking past the hospital swimming pool, Jim suddenly jumped into the deep end. He sunk to the bottom & stayed there.

Mary promptly jumped in to save him. She swam to the bottom and pulled Jim out. When the medical director became aware of Mary's heroic act he immediately ordered her to be discharged from the hospital, as he now considered her to be mentally stable.

When he went to tell Mary the news he said, "Mary, I have good news & bad news. The good news is you're being discharged because since you were able to jump in and save the life of another patient, I think you've regained your senses." The bad news is, Jim, the patient you saved, hung himself with his bathrobe belt in the bathroom. I am so sorry, but he's dead."

Mary replied "He didn't hang himself, I put him there to dry."

SEE YOU TONIGHT BRO!!

An Amish farmer walking through his field notices a man
drinking from his pond, with his hand. The Amish man shouts: 'Trink das wasser nicht. Die kuhen haben dahin gesheissen.'
(Which means: 'Don't drink the water, the cows have shit in it.')
The man shouts back: 'I'm a Muslim, I don't understand your
gibberish. Speak English, infidel!'
The Amish man says: 'Use two hands, you'll get more!!'

Dear Kurt,

It was good to see you yesterday. I am so glad that you are making some progress and that Evey is taking very good care of you. I was impressed by the hospital, we do not have one like that around here. You are in good hands and soon will be feeling better. Remember that we love you very much and the whole family is praying for you.

Love, Sonia

Kurtel,

Ditto to what Sonia said above. The news continues to get better and better and as your doctor said yesterday, your attitude and optimism are great contributors to this. Keep it up, Sweetie.

The following is something I picked up in South Africa last month - It goes like this:

"I hold you and your happiness within my heart each and every day and I am so proud of you and so thankful for the years that have given me so much to be thankful for. If I were given a chance to be anything I wanted to become, there's nothing I would rather be than your Mom. And there is no-one I would rather have...as my Son."

I love you so much, and my thoughts are with you constantly.

Hey KT,
Good to hear that things are moving in a positive direction, and know that I'm keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. My niece is a leukemia survivor, and is now a nurse at Prebyterian/St. Luke's Cancer Center in Denver. She works with expecting parents to explain the advantages of donating umbilical cords for use in place of bone marrow, which is what she ultimately had done. If you would like to talk to her at all, she would be more than happy to do so...let me know.

Get better soon... I'm running out of material!

An elderly lady goes into the doctor and tells him - “Doctor, I don’t know what the problem is, but I’ve been farting all the time. It’s not really a problem socially because they don’t make any noise and don’t smell. I just can’t stop farting all the time. In fact, since I’ve been standing here I must have farted at least 20 times.”

“No kidding…” says the doctor with a bit of an upturned nose. The doc says “I’ve got just the stuff.” and gives her some pills. “Here take these for 10 days, then return for a followup appointment.”

So she takes the pills and returns 10 later as instructed. Infuriated, she confronted the doctor. “What kind of medicine is this? I’m still farting just as much! They still don’t make any noise, but now they stink terribly!”

The doctor nodded, “Great, now that we’ve got your sinuses cleared up, we’ll work on your hearing next!”

Everyone loves a good fart joke...
Right?

A great man once spoke of a Buddhist prodigy...

In the cool shade of the banana tree
On the rugged trail toward the balcony
A child of the twentieth century
A dried up Goliath and a weasel named Fee

Far away in another place
A fading beauty named Milly Grace
And a bamboo cane to help her keep the pace

Fee was a Buddhist prodigy
Long past the age of maturity
Someday he knew it would set him free
Like it did for Floyd the chimpanzee

Oh, Fee, you're trying to live a life
That's completely free.
You're racing with the wind
You're flirting with death
So have a cup of coffee
And catch your breath

Fee first met Milly in a bar in Peru
His heart was jumping like a kangaroo
Like a beast in a cage in an old Dutch zoo
It was hopping and thumping in wooden shoes

But Floyd was jealous and alone
He wanted Milly for his own
A desperate craving in his bones
"Their love", he said, "I will not condone."

Then one day on a ship to Quebec
Floyd found Milly on a lover's trek
He picked up a bottle and broke off the neck
It sliced through the air, and Fee hit the deck

Oh, Fee, you're trying to live a life
That's completely free
You want to stay with Milly
Until you're dead
But you just got a bottle
Upside your head

Milly turned and began to scream at Floyd
said "You think you're pretty mean"
And though she was as thin as a small string bean
She slammed him in the face with a nectarine

Floyd fell back over the edge of the ship
Till he hung from the rail by his fingertip
said, "Floyd I'll make you lose your grip
With this tiny piece of paper I can make you slip"

So Milly took that paper and did the deed
Floyd hit the water with astonishing speed
And as the sharks circled and began to feed
Milly knew her weasel was finally free

Oh, Fee, you're trying to live a life
That's completely free
Floyd is dead; he's nothing but a ripple
Cause Milly took that paper
And sliced him on the nipple

What is Kurt's diagnosis?

AML is a type of cancer in which the bone marrow makes abnormal myeloblasts (a type of white blood cell), red blood cells, or platelets.

Adult Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) is a cancer of the blood and bone marrow. This type of cancer usually gets worse quickly if it is not treated. It is the most common type of acute leukemia in adults. AML is also called acute myelogenous leukemia, acute myeloblastic leukemia, acute granulocytic leukemia, and acute nonlymphocytic leukemia.
