Today is cause for celebration considering the fact hat I have finished the chemo portion of the induction phase. I seriously can't believe how quickly the whole thing went by. I still have my hair and no other side effects have taken hold yet so I may just get through this thing unscathed... time will tell. I'm still feeling great, fatigue is all but gone and the small amount of nausea I had a couple of days ago has seemed to subside...so I guess you could say all is well.
In 7 days they will do another bone marrow test to see what effect the chemo had on the cancer cells. If things look good and the cancer cells look low enough, then they will allow my body to rest and recover while I wait for the bone marrow transplant. If there is still an unacceptable amount of cancer cells in my marrow, then they will put me through another, shorter round of chemo. This will be done until my marrow is clean enough of cancer cells to move forward with the transplant, which is still in the process of approvals, matches, etc.
At this point, my biggest struggle is trying to find ways to get my heart pumping at least to a point where I don't feel like a bump on a log. Going from exercising 5-6 days a week down to nothing overnight has taken a toll on me both mentally and physically. Unfortunately while I am going through the induction stage, there isn't a whole lot I can do. The bright side is I can walk 25 laps around the nurses station which equals a mile, so I have that going for me, which is nice. Can you say hamster on a wheel?
That's about it for tonight. Thanks for reading and we'll catch up tomorrow.

What is Kurt's diagnosis?
AML is a type of cancer in which the bone marrow makes abnormal myeloblasts (a type of white blood cell), red blood cells, or platelets.
Adult Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) is a cancer of the blood and bone marrow. This type of cancer usually gets worse quickly if it is not treated. It is the most common type of acute leukemia in adults. AML is also called acute myelogenous leukemia, acute myeloblastic leukemia, acute granulocytic leukemia, and acute nonlymphocytic leukemia.

Congratulations on the completion of round one big fella! It's a great day indeed!
And now, a few words from Jerry...
If my words did glow with the gold of sunshine
And my tunes were played on the harp unstrung,
Would you hear my voice come thru the music,
Would you hold it near as it were your own?
Its a hand-me-down, the thoughts are broken,
Perhaps theyre better left unsung.
I dont know, dont really care
Let there be songs to fill the air.
Ripple in still water,
When there is no pebble tossed,
Nor wind to blow.
Reach out your hand if your cup be empty,
If your cup is full may it be again,
Let it be known there is a fountain,
That was not made by the hands of men.
There is a road, no simple highway,
Between the dawn and the dark of night,
And if you go no one may follow,
That path is for your steps alone.
Ripple in still water,
When there is no pebble tossed,
Nor wind to blow.
But if you fall you fall alone,
If you should stand then whos to guide you?
If I knew the way I would take you home.
We are sending possitive thoughts your way with lot's of strength, love, and support.

We had our 1st blue glove poker game last night. I think we may have caused a bit of concern at the nurses station. Several requests for Ice, water, and Cups kept them on the go. Kurt's request for "special" ice went over well. No suprise, he has all the nurses wrapped around his finger. The "special" ice was delivered with a smile.
The big winners were Kurt and AL! Tom and I are in the hole big time and Van is around even. I will be looking to make that money back next week for round two. I blame crapy dealers and toms continued abuse of my simple mind.
Great company, good music, a magic button, and special ice! A great night!

Winner Winner Hospital Dinner!!
And to think I almost didn't buy back in... Still suffering from a serious case of envy… we all need magic buttons! I'm convinced the world would be a better place. We might not accomplish much but oh what fun we'd have.
There is a student in medical school who wants to specialize in sexual disorders, so he makes arrangements to visit the sexual disorder clinic.
The chief resident is showing him around, discussing cases and the facility, when the student sees as patient masturbating in his room. "What condition does he have?" the student asks.
"He suffers from Seminal Buildup Disorder," the resident replies. "If he doesn't ejaculate 40 to 50 times a day, he'll become disoriented."
As the two continue their rounds, the student peeks into another room and sees a patient with his pants around ankles, receiving oral sex from a beautiful nurse. "What about him?" the student asks. "What's his story?"
"Oh, it's the same condition," the doctor replies. "He just has a better health plan."
the jokes crack me up!
Kurt, I'm so glad to hear your first round of chemo went well.
Keep up the positive outlook.
My thoughts are with you daily...

A woman accompanied her husband to the doctor's office.
After his checkup, the doctor called the wife into his office alone. He said, "Your husband is suffering from a very severe stress disorder. If you don't do the following, your husband will surely die."
"Each morning, fix him a healthy breakfast. Be pleasant at all times. For lunch make him a nutritious meal. For dinner prepare an especially nice meal for him. Don't burden him with chores. Don't discuss your problems with him, it will only make his stress worse. No nagging. And most importantly, make love with your husband several times a week. If you can do this for the next 10 months to a year, I think your husband will regain his health completely."
On the way home, the husband asked his wife. "What did the doctor say?"
"He said you're going to die," she replied.
Hi again, Sweetie,
Sounds as though you had one helluva party in your ward last night!!!!! And what's with the "special ice"? You and I need to have a talk, especially about your winnings!! LOL.
Well, we've made it through round one, just as we will round two, three and four. Recovery is not too far off and everyone is proud of you - evident from this blog! Keep your spirits high and up, Kurtel, and remember that all of us love you...what a celebration it will be when you finally get to go home - can't wait!
All my love,

P.S. See you Saturday, with Steve and Dad.

Hey bro! If I don't see you this weekend have someone Purell up, slap on a blue glove and give you a quick tickle.
As always the best cure for all that ales you is alcohol. Wait I mean laughter... Definitely laughter. And the magic button. And friends. Or some wierd combination of all of that would be super cool. What if we could put all that in a blender and drink it. No that would be gross.
hugs and kisses
love you mean it!
xxxooo
Congrats on your first milestone. Keep on fighting!
This blog is wonderful. Every morning I check it to see how you're doing. We're so glad that your first round of chemo went so well.
We have alot of friends and family praying for you. Prayer is very powerful and I know your getting lots of them.
You're so lucky to have Evey in your life. It sounds like she's really taking good care of you.
Here's a golf joke to brighten your day:
IRISH GAS STATION
Taking a wee break from the golf course, Tiger Woods drives his new
Mercedes into an Irish gas station.
An attendant greets him in typical Irish manner, unaware who the golf
pro is... 'Top o' the mornin to ya'.
As Tiger gets out of the car, two tees fall out of his pocket.
'So what are those things, laddie?' asks the attendant.
'They're called tees,' replies Tiger.
'And what would ya be usin 'em for, now?' inquires the Irishman.
'Well, they're for resting my balls on when I drive,' replies Tiger.
'Aw, Jaysus, Mary an' Joseph!' exclaims the Irish attendant. 'Those
fellas at Mercedes think of everything...

"so I have that going for me, which is nice"
Caddyshack? Nice.

Kurt and Evey:
As everyone else - was devastated to hear the news. But... EXCITED to read your updates and the great progress you are making.
As Aunt Cherry may have told you - I was in the area (Orange County - OK - maybe to all you in CA that isn't in the "area" for San Diego - but to me from FL - it's just around the corner comparatively speaking) ;-) It was my intent to get down there to see you. But I was called back to FL early. Sorry about that.
Here’s wishing you a HAPPY 4th of JULY!!!!!
Can’t wait to see you guys back in NYC in November.
Your East Coast peeps are pulling for you!
Scott.
Well Thally, we celebrated HUGE for you on the 4th.. Got busted by the Fire Marshall, pissed off a few neighbors and of course the cops came all over a few questionable fireworks.. DAMN!
We kept the good stuff hidden in the freezer until the coast was clear! The grand finale was all for you baby!! Lights in the sky! Could you see them?
Good to hear the news.. Keep on trucking my friend.. A very close friend of mine recently had a bone marrow transplant and is doing great! The bright side is with you good buddy... Like a bottle rocket in the sky!! Happy 4th and keep the good news flowing!!
Much love to you and Ev

K-Dog - I heard through the grapevine the news and I know you will battle through this. Stay positive and know my thoughts are with you everyday. I would love to come see you soon.

Hi Kurt,
I just heard about the news. My thoughts and prayers will be with you brother. It's been such a longtime since I've seen you. Maybe once you kick this thing, we can hit up Poches for old time sake? I'm still in SD so I'll be stopping by to pay you a visit.
