Sunday, July 6th, 2008

Happy Sunday everyone and I hope you all had a great long weekend. All things considered, mine wasn't too bad. Certainly not my ideal 4th of July weekend, but I was still able to see good friends and family, eat a burger and watch a ton of sports. I even had probably the best cupcake of my life. As I said, not too shabby all things considered.

We had another good visit from the doctor this morning. She said that everything continues to look absolutely perfect with the way my body has responded to the first round of chemo. My white blood cell counts are rebounding extremely quickly, liver looks great, side effects are minimal if any and early indications look like the chemo really took it to the cancer cells hard. The bone marrow test will tell us definitively how well the chemo did against the cancer, but she says she has a really good feeling about it so I'm going to go with that until I hear otherwise.

Not much else to report on for now. The big news for the week will be the results of the bone marrow test for me and transplant match test for my brother Steve. We'll get those results posted as soon as we get them which should be closer to the end of the week. Thanks for reading and take care.

Kurt, you're blessed with the family and friends whom surround you. It's been years since I've seen you yet I now think of you often. May this weeks tests results bring you what you need to move forward. You are keeping an amazing attitude through all this. What an inspiration you have been. You're a lucky man to be enveloped in all this love. I wish you health, wellness and well being every day.
Sincerely, Amy

Hey Kurt, thought you might like a little joke.

Have a good day. Carole L.

Sally was driving home from a business trip in Northern Arizona when she saw an elderly Navajo woman walking on the side of the road.

As the trip was a long and quiet one, she stopped the car and asked the Navajo woman if she would like a ride.

With a silent nod of thanks, the woman got into the car.

Resuming the journey, Sally tried in vain to make a bit of small talk with the Navajo woman. The old woman just sat silently, look intently at everything she saw, studying every littel detail, until she noticed a brown bag on the seat next to Sally.

'What in bag?' asked the old woman.

Sally looked down at the brown bag and said, 'It's a bottle of wine. I got it for my husband.'

The Navajo woman was silent for another moment or two.

Then speaking with the quiet wisdom of an elder, she said:

'Good trade.....'

Hey Kurt,

On behalf of everyone who reads your blog regularly . . . Thank You.

Like many others I'm sure, I find myself thinking of you often and how things are going . . . its great to read it "from-the-horse's-mouth" so to speak.

I'm glad the Chemo is over and you're feeling stronger. I'll still send some Medinica your way even though the nausea has thankfully subsided.

We are all thinking good thoughts as you await the bone marrow chemo & transplant test results.

Stay Strong!

Hi Kurtel,

Great news, Sweetie, and within a couple of days, Steve will have been tested so that we can get the ball rolling - this is going to be a good week!!

Steve and I will see you tomorrow at 11. He's putting me onto several websites, looking for a download of "Ironman" for you. So far, no luck, and that's a good thing! Can you imagine me behind bars after being caught doing this??!! No wonder Steve's not doing this himself!!!!!

Enjoy the rest of your day Sweetie, and see you in the a.m.

Love you,

Mom xxx

hi kurt!
It's me, Eryn's friend Tana! Eryn told me about your diagnosis and she forwards all of your info to me. As I read through your blog, I can feel a sense of familiarity. I'm sure you remember I am a breast cancer survivor,(almost 5 yrs.!)and as I read, I know you are saying,"I'm going to do what I've got to do, so let's do this!!!!" I can feel that you have a positive attitude and let me tell you that is exactly what is needed! You are strong both physically and mentally. You WILL be able to accept whatever measures you need to endure for treatment, always know that.
Sorry this is so long, but when you spoke of chemo, i certainly remembered those nauseating days! Everyone's chemo recipe is different, but mine made my hair fall out exactly 2 weeks to the day of my first treatment. But hey, its back now, my life is actually better than before, and every single day is actually pretty sweet!
I'll continue to read up on you and please, just know that i do think of you often and i send all positive energy, blessings and peace to you....

After the North American Beer Festival, all the brewery presidents decided to go out for a beer.

The guy from Corona sits down and says, "Hey Señor, I would like the world’s best beer, a Corona."

The bartender dusts off a bottle from the shelf and gives it to him.

The guy from Budweiser says, "I’d like the best beer in the world, give me ‘The King of Beers,’ a Budweiser."

The bartender gives him one.

The guy from Coors says, "I’d like the only beer made with Rocky Mountain spring water, give me a Coors." He gets it.

The guy from Molson sits down and says, "Give me a Coke."

The bartender is a little taken back, but gives him what he ordered.

The other brewery presidents look over at him and ask, "Why aren’t you drinking a Molson’s?"

The Molson president replies, "Well, I figured if you guys aren’t drinking beer, neither would I."

Great to see you guys this weekend. Thanks Kurt for letting us steal Evey to the beach for some girl time and Mexican food. I hope we filled you in on enough girl gossip the next day.

Wow, I have never seen Kurt so delighted as when he took a bite of that Sprinkles cupcake. Contraband cupcakes are so delicious.

We are all awaiting great news this week guys!!!

Hi Kurt,

I'm doing everything I can to keep Van away from you...he has the sniffles and I know it is absolutely killing him that he can't come down there.

I know you have never met my mom but everytime we go out we have a drink (or two, or three) and toast to your health. She wanted me to let you know that you need to get all better soon or she may end up in rehab. :)

I hope to see you and Evey very soon!

Love, Staci

What is Kurt's diagnosis?

AML is a type of cancer in which the bone marrow makes abnormal myeloblasts (a type of white blood cell), red blood cells, or platelets.

Adult Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) is a cancer of the blood and bone marrow. This type of cancer usually gets worse quickly if it is not treated. It is the most common type of acute leukemia in adults. AML is also called acute myelogenous leukemia, acute myeloblastic leukemia, acute granulocytic leukemia, and acute nonlymphocytic leukemia.

This blog was created to post updates on Kurt and give all of our friends and family a forum to share notes and thoughts. Please check back often for updates.
