Hi everyone,
not a whole lot to report on from my end but it hasn't been the smoothest week, that's for sure. These fevers I have been fighting for the past week or so don't seem to want to leave me alone. They are at least simmering down to the 102 level as opposed to 104+, and they are only hitting at night as opposed to both day and night, so those two things definitely make them more manageable....but they are still fevers none the less. Fevers here mean extra tests all day long, and sometimes all night long. If means extra blood cultures, Tylenol and whatever meds and antibiotics they feel fits the job. All in all it's not that bad, just annoying due to all of the extra hoops I have to jump through. I don't feel any worse though, just warmer.
I also have the pesky cold which has resulted in me going through 3 different sets of chest and head X-Rays, and 2 CT scans in the last 5 days. These guys don't mess around here. They see a sign of one potential issue, they throw everything they have at it. All tests have turned up negative which is news I can certainly live with.
As far as "The Plan" goes, I may finally have some hard dates set regarding treatment. I say "may" because this information came from someone who works with the person who is handling my transplant case, not the actual person. Until it comes from her mouth, it will always remain a "may" situation. Anyway, do you remember when I mentioned there would be an additional week of treatment before the transplant procedure? Well it looks like the fun begins on September 20th which coincidentally enough is the same day of the day of the charity walk. Nice huh? So the 20th and 21st will be filled with chemo treatments. The 22nd through the 24th will be my full body radiation days which leaves the target, go time, all cards on the table, TRANSPLANT day looking as of now like Friday, September 25th. I know there are a lot of questions about this and they will come out as we get closer to the date, but that how everything looks as of now. I must tell you, it feels pretty damn good to have date set, even if it's not set in stone just yet.
Wow, I guess I had more than just a quick update. Thanks for reading everyone and as you can see, much more information to follow as this whole thing unravels. I am feeling and doing great and as always we appreciate all of your unwavering support and love. Take care everyone, be well and we'll talk soon.

What is Kurt's diagnosis?

A mortician was working late one night. He examined the body of Mr. Schwartz, about to be cremated, and made a startling discovery.
Schwartz had the largest private part he had ever seen!
"I'm sorry Mr. Schwartz," the mortician commented, "I can't allow you to be cremated with such an impressive private part. It must be saved for posterity."
So, he removed it, stuffed it into his briefcase, and took it home.
I have something to show you won't believe," he said to his wife, opening his briefcase.
"My God!" the wife exclaimed, "Schwartz is dead!"
Hi Kurt,
I talked to Evey this morning and had no idea. Given I live here in SD, please, please, please feel free to ask for anything.
We send you our love, our prayers and our positive vibes for a full recovery.
Take great care,

Cool!
Bruce Banner was hit with radiation from the experimental detonation of a gamma bomb and look what happened to him!
Comic books, TV shows, and a bad movie (or two, I didn't see the second one).
Did you know the original Hulk was gray?

Hello Kurt,
How great it is that things are moving ahead for you and that soon you may be out of hospital. This is what we have all been praying for and it seems now that all those prayers are being answered. Your mom and my mom, Jenny, are in daily contact and we all look forward to the news. We also get news about her Manny and we all feel very sad for her in this respect. He seems to be a very good person and the short prognosis for him must be devastating for her. He would phone her here in S,A, often to see how she was doing with her illness and hopefully she'll read your blog wherein she needs to know that we all love her and pray that God gives her the strength to get through all this. She is a strong and inspiring person and we all look up to her in awe. We can't begin to know and feel what she is going through. Please give her a big hug from all of us over here in her mother country.
I need to go into a meeting now but please remember that we all send you very good wishes for a speedy recovery. My wife Lucy had a sonogram done on her and the sex of our forthcoming child shows it is a boy. We are very happy and long to be a family of 3..
Look after yourself Kurt and you will be hearing from us again.
Michael and Lucy in South Africa.
Totsiens for now.
Nice come from behind win last night!

a little joke for ya.....
Floyd works hard at the plant and spends two nights each

So just to make sure I have this blog thing all figured out then, Al and Tommy are gay, Lou Ferrigno has gone grey, and Kurt is starring in the upcoming incredible hulk movie. Got it.

Marc
Kurt & Evey,
I visit this blog almost everyday to keep abreast on your situation and have been meaning to write for some time now. The positive attitude you have is undescribable. The love and support you have from your family and friends is priceless and with that support you WILL get through this.
You are constantly in our thoughts and prayers..
Love and Friendship always..
Christie Maxwell and family!
Feel better Kurt! The "plan" is in place, get after it!! My thoughts and prayers are with you.
Go Cowboys ... and Chargers :)

Hi Kurt,
It's Jen Gizzi. Rob Gattis forwarded your blog to me. (our kids are playing soccer together...)
I just wanted to send a quick note to say that I am so sorry you are going through all of this. I hope that you can beat it quickly. My boys and I will add you to our prayer list each night (especially on 9/25).
I will add your blog to my daily reading to get updates on your progress (as well as current sports it seems).
I hope your fever breaks very soon so you can be a little more comfortable before the big day.
Take Care,
Jen (Gizzi) Doyle
Kurt,
Who is this Tommy? How can he say "Nice come from behind win last night"? That totally down plays their performance!
'Awesome come from behind win" would have been more accurate. "Angels kicked a** in the final innings" would also work.
Hopefully the weekend games will be equally as enjoyable.
Carole L.
...not sure who "Tommy" is either but with a name like that (and a Halo fan to boot) I guarantee he's a cool guy. :)
Looks like Halos might hold on to the momentum built last night (knock on wood).
I'm just glad someone else posted a longer blog entry than mine... thanks TR. I was getting self conscience.
Personally, I like Al's take. The radiation idea (possibly getting super powers?) is awesome- but what super power? Invisibility? Flight? X-ray vision... oops, I might be asking for trouble with this.
I think it would be funny to bring a jiffy pop serving with you the next time you go to the C-scan and ask them if you can hold it as they send you through - just to watch their reaction.
I recently had surgery and I was going to put a post it note on my stomach saying not to open until christmas... I figure doc's have to laugh too, right?
They say laughter is the best medicine- not sure if it's true but I figure it couldn't hurt.
Kurt you've got great friends and family, you're lucky.
Best, and GO ANGELS

Hi Kurt and Evey
sorry I haven't written anything in the past month but my internet wasn't working. I was lucky to even make it work on my "computer account"
there were a lot of news this past month and I am so happy to hear the good news. I hope I'll be able to write you more often but school starts on monday and I'll be away most of the day and spend the rest sleeping or studying.
We all hope everything goes well
and a bottle of medenica will be here for you whenever you come...
With love and all the best wishes
Kate and Vranjci
Afternoon Kurt,
Man, I thought the Angels might pull it out of the fire in the 8th and especially the 9th inning. But it wasn't meant to be today.
Still a fair game. Althought the umpire was kind of surly. And in need of glasses based on some of the calls he made.
Pretty hot out there today too. Most of the fans were soaked in sweat.
Hope you have cooled down and that your fevers are subsiding.
We all think of you daily back at SD&E. I just moved into Jerry's old office, leaving mine vacant for you. It will be great to see your name tag on it when you come back this fall.
Miss you much my friend. Say hi to Evey, I miss her too.
As always,
Carole L
Sitting at my desk in happy tears right now!!!! Such great news about your cell count and the fact that you get to go home! So happy for you Kurt. Sending big hugs your way!
Kurt,
Great news, congrats! Let me know when your up for a visit, I'd love to stop by. Let me know what works for you.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
